The Vital Void: What Makes Us Miss Out What Life’s All About?

From Abstract Zero to Natural Hero (coloured pencil and ink drawing on paper by Alan Rayner, 2021). The Transformative Mathematical Move From Abstract to Natural; Is the integration of Zero; As a dynamic inclusion of One; Within Infinity; Spatial Stillness and Energetic Motion; Soul and Spirit; In co-creative, mutually inclusive relationship; Making us what we are; Embodiments of Place-Time

What makes us miss out

What we need to include in our minds

To make life worth living -

Loving, caring, joyful, creative, understandable, sustainable -

A gift to be received, nurtured and passed on

In continuous relay

And instead treat life as a quest

Against all odds

For supremacy, certainty and material wealth

At all costs to our psyche, environment and bodily health?

.

It’s hard to avoid

The fear of the void

When it’s represented to us

As the end, not the source, of us all

Making us seek salvation

In false conclusions

That miss out

By division or union

What needs to occur

In the depth of our selves

And the depth of our habitats

To make our lives possible

In the first place

.

It’s then that we need

With less haste, more speed

To return to our senses

And take into account

The intangible that’s missing

From all measured amount -

The infinite quality

Throughout and beyond quantity

That our fear of missing out

Misses out

But our innate love of life

Knows only too well

***Bringing Numbers to Life***
And Why This Matters So Much

Are numbers really inert
Dead bodies
That can be dissected
Into wholes and parts
Integers and fractions
To be added, subtracted, multiplied and divided
By external force
According to rigid rules
That can’t be broken
Without going badly wrong?
.
So I was taught at school
Which made me feel like a fool
When I couldn’t get into my head
What somehow filled me with dread
And made no sense of what thrives
Beyond what merely survives
.
Or do numbers really hurt?
Like people
When treated this way
All the way down to hadrons collided
At vast expense
In the vain quest to find
What goes missing
By way of innermost receptivity
Within current circulation
That sitting here in my armchair
I can dare
To envisage in the blink of an eye
Simply why
Mass can’t exist without volume
The natural dynamic inclusion of space
Within energetic flux
And energetic flux
In space
.
And in that magical moment
See numbers come to life
As dances in formation
In ones, twos, threes
Monocycles, bicycles, tricycles and more
Around the zero-point core
The hole that isn’t a whole
And so can’t be divided
Without dying on the spot
.
Well, you might ask me
How much does this matter?
And I’d have to answer
Quite a lot
Concerning a small matter of the difference
Between life and death
And how we treat ourselves
Our neighbours
And neighbourhood
With loving care
Or that distanced neglect
In which all our lives
Get wrecked
